Sam Altman, founder of OpenAI, stated on April 2 that the release of OpenAI's new version might be delayed due to current computing power constraints, which may sometimes slow down services.

Earlier reports indicated that Altman planned to launch GPT-4.5 and GPT-5 in the upcoming weeks or months. He also mentioned the future release of a new open-source weighted language model with reasoning capabilities. Open-source weighted language models are available for public use, download, modification, or deployment, marking a significant shift from the fully closed GPT-3 and GPT-4 models.

In 2019, OpenAI partially open-sourced the GPT-2 model in February and completed full open-sourcing by November of the same year.
