The consumer confidence index in the U.S. has continued to decline, raising the possibility of a recession. The Conference Board's consumer confidence index for March fell 7.2 points to 92.9, marking the lowest since 2021. This figure fell short of expectations from economists surveyed by Dow Jones and The Wall Street Journal.
Brett Kenwell, U.S. investment analyst at eToro, assessed that ongoing economic uncertainty continues to dampen the sentiment among investors, consumers, and businesses. Notably, the expectations index plunged to 65.2, the lowest in 12 years. Typically, a level below 80 signals an impending recession.
