Ukraine is reportedly nearing the adoption of Bitcoin as a national reserve asset to bolster its financial resilience amid ongoing conflict with Russia. The draft bill is in its final stages, according to parliament member Yaroslav Zhelezniak, and was announced at the CRYPTO 2025 conference.
The move follows international recognition of Bitcoin as a reserve, with the U.S. and Sweden considering similar strategies. Legal challenges may slow Ukraine's adoption, with Binance's regional head emphasizing the need for significant legal changes for implementation.
Despite Ukraine's ambition, concerns about the country's financial state have been raised, with some questioning the timing and feasibility of such an initiative.
Ukraine plans to legalize cryptocurrencies by 2025 in coordination with the National Bank and IMF, but the new Bitcoin reserve proposal may require substantial legal changes and greater regulatory clarity.
