NYC Mayor Eric Adams launches crypto advisory council 🏙️
New York City Mayor Eric Adams has announced the creation of a digital advisory council, with the goal of making NYC the "crypto capital of the globe". The council will focus on job creation and investment, aligning with Adams' vision for the city. The announcement was made at the inaugural NY City Crypto Summit.
Adams has previously declared intentions to explore crypto payments, including taxes, and implement blockchain technology for managing city records like birth and death certificates. The advisory council will reportedly comprise experts to navigate crypto-related solutions.
New York state legislators are introducing several bills to regulate crypto payments, with plans to accept them for state agency transactions. Additionally, a Blockchain Study Act has been proposed to further investigate the crypto landscape in New York.
Adams, who has incorporated digital assets into his platform since taking office in 2022 and even accepted his initial paychecks in Bitcoin, is positioning NYC for significant growth in the crypto space amid a broader trend of states exploring crypto-related legislation.
