Celo has transitioned from a layer-1 blockchain to an Ethereum layer-2 protocol. This shift leverages Optimism's rollup technology to enhance Celo's security and scalability with features like one-second blocks and reduced transaction fees.
The new system integrates Tether's USDT and USDC as gas and utilizes the OP technology stack, simplifying the codebase and preserving Celo's historical chain data.
Marek Olszewski of cLabs and Irfan Shaik of Interstate recognize this integration as a move towards enhanced liquidity and broader composability within the Ethereum ecosystem.
