Aptos community proposal seeks to slash staking rewards by nearly 50% 🔥
An Aptos community proposal, submitted on April 18, aims to cut staking rewards for the Aptos (APT) token by nearly 50%, from 7% to 3.79%. This proposal, authored by a member named MoonSheisty, seeks to improve capital efficiency and bring Aptos in line with other blockchains.
However, the proposal has sparked various reactions online, with some community members expressing concerns about its potential impact on smaller validators and network decentralization.
The Aptos blockchain, founded by former Meta engineers in 2021, has a total value locked of $974 million, and the proposal suggests implementing a community validator program to support small validators.
Staking rewards are crucial for incentivizing token lock-up and ensuring network security. While other projects like Polkadot and Starknet are also revisiting their staking procedures, concerns remain about the possible negative impact of reduced rewards on decentralization.
