Roger Ver Nears $48 Million Tax Fraud Settlement with U.S. DOJ ⚖️
Early Bitcoin investor and promoter Roger Ver, often referred to as Bitcoin Jesus, is close to reaching a settlement with the U.S. Department of Justice over tax fraud charges. The New York Times reports that the settlement could involve Ver paying around $48 million in back taxes, linked to profits from selling a substantial number of bitcoins.
Ver, originally a strong supporter of Bitcoin before his shift to Bitcoin Cash, was indicted by the DOJ in April 2024 and subsequently arrested in Spain. The Justice Department charged him with failing to report capital gains and neglecting to file U.S. tax returns. The case emphasizes the increasing scrutiny on cryptocurrency transactions by global regulatory bodies.
